Humane AI, the company that just launched its first product aimed at replacing phones, is called AI Battery. This is a standalone product and has no screen, no need to connect to an external device. Former Apple employees want to replace their phones with AI Batteries?

Humane can make the smartphone in your pocket disappear. The startup’s product, Ai Pin, is the first step on the path towards the perfect fusion of the physical and the digital, a personal AI device that you wear and communicate through speech and gestures.

No screen, no buttons, no apps, no downloads. The public was given a preview of the device worn by models at Coperni’s S/S 2024 show in Paris on September 29, 2023, implying that this type of device will eventually become widespread.

‘Pin’ is an understatement, as the product itself looks almost like a badge, using magnets to clip onto your clothing. Think of it as a personal digital assistant miniaturized to the point of near-invisibility, with sophisticated contextual software that enhances your interactions with the world around you.

In practice, this means interacting with the AI Pin via voice and the touchpad that dominates the front. The device also integrates an ultra-wide-angle camera, depth and motion sensors, along with a personality-designed speaker – Bluetooth headset connection is also available. All of this is powered by a Snapdragon processor running Humane’s new Cosmos operating system.

In addition to the usual ability to interact through speech and touch, another way is through Humane’s Laser Display, a projection system that uses your palm as a screen. How does Humane envision AI Batteries working?

Many functions are designed to work seamlessly in the background, such as voice search, translation, and even a tool that visually analyzes your food to support your nutritional advice. Friend.

Overall control and data management is performed through the Humane Center. The company emphasizes that privacy is paramount to its strategy, without an always-on ‘wake-up call’ function and a light that shows when the device is active.

Fast forward a few decades into the smartphone era, and Silicon Valley experts are thinking hard about the shape and form of the next trillion-dollar personal technology. The idea of a portable, smartphone-free personal AI assistant could give you more freedom than ever before.

How does AI Pin deliver a seamless experience?

Over the past year, AI has dominated and redefined the way we create, be it product design, photography, car design or architecture and writing. Humane sidesteps the question of AI’s creativity and goes straight to making the technology a silent, nearly invisible partner for everyday uses.

The California company was founded in 2019 by Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, both of whom worked at Apple. Bethany Bongiorno is the former director of Apple’s iOS and macOS software. The journey to AI Battery took several years, as the team built a software and hardware platform powerful, flexible and compact enough to mark a real step forward from smartphones.

Humane AI has attracted a lot of interest despite not releasing any products since its founding in 2019. Collaborators including TIDAL, OpenAI, Microsoft and T-Mobile will be the last to offer Powering the first devices of the product.

The California company has raised more than $200 million from investors such as Microsoft, Tiger Global, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, CNBC reports.

Initially, it’s likely that the world of work will benefit most from integrating Ai Pin into existing systems, with the automated nature of a camera-enabled device promising similar functionality. Similar to Google’s Glass experiment.

Now, AI has infiltrated smartphones and reinforced our ambiguous relationships with digital assistants, phone banking, and many other human-machine interfaces. And is there more ahead that we can’t see yet?

“The first Humane device will enable people to take AI everywhere,” Chaudhri said earlier this year, and the company is committed to “a future where AI is seamlessly integrated into every aspect of life.” live and enhance our everyday experiences.” Is this a future you want?

Outstanding features of AI Battery

AI Pin doesn’t support voice wake-up, meaning it doesn’t always listen for user commands like “Hey Siri” or “OK Google.” Users need to activate it by voice, touch, gesture or laser Ink display.

For example, if the user touches and presses a finger on the touchpad, the device will be activated and will receive voice commands. If the user wants to make or end a call, they need to double-tap the touchpad.

The product has a built-in microphone and camera and a series of different “trust lights” that flash when those functions are used. For example, the device will display a green light when the camera is turned on. This also lets others know when the device is filming them or their surroundings.

One of the most interesting features of the product is the laser display, which you can control with the palm of your hand. Users can flip through displays such as weather, clock and calendar by tapping their index finger and thumb.

With a slight tilt of the palm, users can also decrease or increase the volume. You don’t need to download an app, as companies like Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI are offering AI services with a subscription.

AI Battery comes with a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery. Once the battery is depleted, it can be charged using the battery booster included in the accessory package. “So if you ever run out of battery, you just pop it in your pocket and replace it,” Bongiorno said in an explainer video.

Expected to go on sale at the end of March 2024 for $699, AiPin has a price segment similar to some versions of iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. The device’s magnet arrays are fastened with just one latch and are designed to attach to the user’s clothing, such as a jacket or shirt.

Humane AI offers a $24 per month subscription, where users will receive a new phone number and mobile data running on the T-Mobile network. Thanks to this, AI Pin has built-in connectivity and mobile functionality.

However, one of the biggest drawbacks of the product is that it cannot really replace the screen in a mobile phone. This means users cannot view or read their emails and messages or surf social media apps and will have to rely on voice commands.

Still, this is a great product for those who rarely watch reel videos on social media and want to reduce their screen time.
