Oppo’s Find N5 feels like the ultimate evolution of foldable phones. Not because it’s a turning point for the industry, but because it’s hard to see where manufacturers can go from here.
This is the thinnest foldable phone in the world, measuring just 8.93mm when closed and 4.21mm when open. Oppo had to customize the USB-C port to make it fit, and if foldables are to get any thinner, USB-C may need to be removed entirely.
Hardware and cameras
The Find N5 is barely thicker than an iPhone 16 Pro Max or a Galaxy S25 Ultra when closed. Open, it has a larger screen than an iPad Mini while being thinner and lighter. The nearly invisible crease in the 8.12-inch display makes the device feel seamless.
Battery life is impressive thanks to Oppo’s second-generation silicon-carbon battery. With a 5,600mAh capacity, it outlasts most foldables. Even after a day of heavy use in poor signal conditions, it only dropped to 50% by bedtime.
The camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor and a 3x telephoto lens that performs well in good lighting. However, the 8MP ultrawide camera feels like an afterthought. Low-light shots expose some weaknesses, especially in the telephoto lens.
Durability remains a concern. The Find N5 is the first foldable with an IPX9 rating, meaning it is highly water-resistant. However, the “X” in IPX9 signifies that it has no official dust resistance—an important factor for foldable longevity.
Software and features
Oppo’s split-screen functionality remains one of the best for multitasking. The Find N5 introduces Mac remote control via O Plus Connect, allowing users to mirror their Mac’s display and control it from their phone.
AI features include connectivity enhancements, call translations, and document summaries. Google Gemini is now the default assistant. The phone is guaranteed four years of Android updates and six years of security patches.
The biggest drawback: no US release
Oppo has no plans to launch the Find N5 in the US, and OnePlus has confirmed it won’t release a rebadged version. This means less competition for Samsung and Google, reducing the pressure to innovate or lower prices.
At $2,499 SGD (around $1,867), the Find N5 remains a premium device. If foldables are to become mainstream, they need to stop getting thinner and start becoming more affordable.
