The artificial intelligence and cloud computing company G42, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, has unveiled a network known as “Condor Galaxy,” which is touted as the world’s largest supercomputer.
This network will consist of nine interconnected supercomputers designed to address challenges in healthcare, energy, and climate change mitigation using artificial intelligence.
Recently, on Thursday, G42 signed a $100 million agreement with Cerebras, a U.S.-based artificial intelligence company, to provide the first three AI supercomputers.
The first supercomputer, Condor Galaxy 1 (CG-1), boasts an impressive 54 million cores, with a computing power of 4 exaflops (equivalent to 4 quadrillion floating-point operations per second). Exaflop is a performance measurement unit for supercomputers, representing the number of calculations a computer can perform in a specific time frame.
Two other supercomputers, CG-2 and CG-3, are expected to launch in the United States early in 2024. This collaboration aligns with the United Arab Emirates’ national artificial intelligence plan, aiming to leverage AI to enhance productivity across various sectors, drive transformative changes, and improve efficiency.
G42 has been involved in various AI applications, including healthcare, smart cities, energy transition, financial services, sports, space exploration, and big data analytics.
The supercomputer infrastructure provided through this collaboration will boost critical research and applications, advance technology, and bring benefits to people’s lives worldwide.
A study by Coursera – E-learning Platform and YouGov – Market Research Firm, found that 83% of UAE businesses are willing to integrate creative artificial intelligence into their business.
Additionally, more than 82% of over 500 business leaders in the UAE reported successful deployment of AI into their existing products and services.
